Hand Crochet Rope Mat with Rope Lights

I have been moving several yards of handmade rice-straw rope around the barn for 25 years. I finally decided to use it or lose it.

Using the same technique as the toothbrush rugs (but without a toothbrush or tool since the rope was so thick), I made a doormat.

When I needed more rope for the guide rope, I used an old set of rope lights from the holiday decor that we no longer use.

Size: approx 110cm x 60 cm

On beyond rugs...twined objects

Waste basket.

This is twining around an object.

It gives me a sort of 1970's vibe. I don't want to get carried away and twine around jars and vases and album covers but the waste basket was ugly to begin with.

I used the can as my "loom", draping the warp pieces over the bottom. The twining tends will be in the same diagonal direction since you are going around the object rather than back and forth across the warp.

I had enough remnants from a previous mat to make the waste basket cover: cotton linings, yukata fabric and silk kimono cloth.
